Protect Yourself and Report the Loss

Practical steps for victims, including evidence preservation, identity protection, account security, and official reporting.

Immediate actions

If you sent money or identity documents

  1. Stop all payments.Do not pay any additional fee, regardless of the explanation.
  2. Preserve evidence.Save wallet addresses, transaction hashes, screenshots, messages, usernames, phone numbers, and bank records.
  3. Report the loss.File with the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center and the relevant state securities regulator.
  4. Protect your identity.Freeze your credit, change reused passwords, enable multifactor authentication, and monitor bank and credit accounts.
  5. Remove remote-access software.Uninstall remote-control tools and have the device checked if anyone guided you through account setup or transfers.
